Amy Shuman

Amy Shuman is a Professor of Folklore and Narrative at The Ohio State University. She studies how people tell stories in their daily lives and how narrative is used in a variety of different settings, from the dinner table to legal proceedings.  She is the author of four books including Other People’s Stories: Entitlement Claims and the Critique of Empathy, about what happens when our stories circulate to new tellers and most recently Political Asylum Deceptions: The Culture of Suspicion, which includes discussions of how political asylum seekers’ stories are evaluated in the immigration system.
